Holy Moly! Dylan On The Dial

Didja ever wonder what would (mostly) crap-astic and lobotomized radio sound like if Bob Dylan was the host?

I had read in an in-flight magazine few months (or was it a year?) ago that Dylan was supposed to get on XM Radio to do a show. He did*, and these folks have kindly put roughly twenty or so episodes of this show "Theme Time Radio Hour" online. Some of the themes that animate Dylan's mind: Jail, The Devil, Eyes, Bible, Map. Go download and enjoy!

*Read a blog post (or two) on how XM folks got Dylan to do this show.

Cheap Caviar

“Was it so late, friend, ere you went to bed, That you do lie so late?”

  • Macduff to the Porter in "Macbeth, Act II, Scene 3"*

Lines of smoked (ay! fine expensive Cubans those coal red pieces must have been) verse and metaphor kept this Porter up after he hauled home a load of cheap second hand books** all stamped with the signature “Sturgeon” on the front piece.

*Look up this scene for a pithy summation of what drink does to masculine erotic drive. **Five in number for $1 each because the yellowing pages were redolent with Mr. Sturgeon's cigar smoke; this almost made me wish I could maro suttas as well.

Weepy Time

When the mind is innundated with numbers, and dreams turn weird, you google for old weepy movies such as Mouna Ragam[1] (clicky to download a stamp sized, but decent quality, Telugu version) to get the blood circulating, and the sniffles going again.

[1]This is an excellent analysis of Mani Ratnam's direction skills displayed in one of the early scenes of the movie. And also includes a link to one of Illu's BGM's - Illu is a god of a background music. And if you want more of this godly combo (Mani Ratnam in the director's seat, P.C. Sriram behind the camera, and Illu scoring the music), you should also check out "Geetanjali" (again in Telugu) over at YouTube. Sorry, neither of these movies have subtitles!
