Hanging Noose Delta Blues
Some news stories are too disturbing to ignore. This should make you write to your congressman or senator, especially if you live in Louisiana. Here is a Kafkaesque joke (as reported in the New York Times):
"A shouting match ensued when he dismissed the hanging of nooses as “kid’s play.”“I’ve hung nooses around my neck as a child,” he said.
“Well, you didn’t pull it tight enough,” Ms. Jones shot back."
WTF! Why the hell didn't this story make to the front page of every newspaper!!!

Joni Mitchell's highly painterly, and utterly beautiful "Urge for Going"
"I'll ply the fire with kindling and pull the blankets up to my chin And I'll lock the vagrant winter out and I'll bolt my wandering in. I'd like to call back summertime and have her stay for just another month or so But she's got the urge for going, so I guess she'll have to go. She gets the urge for going when meadow grass is turning brown And all her empires are falling down. Winter's closing in."

A Question For The Masters
Why is that, O Respected
(and Expensive) Masters, that your
eyes always saw the sky filled with
warm porridge, with cotton candy, with
horse manes, or with golden sheaves
of wheat, and never absolutely empty
of all essence like a giant blue
or black bell, with a tongue
of golden light or silver rain tolling,
tolling for God knows what?
