3 Saturday Pieces

[1] Spot

Stare at the wall. Stare at the spot where paint has peeled

to paint the likeness of a face

or the outline of a map that points to the place

where you were betrayed.

[2] Lantana

You Whitmanic flower containing all colors,

are you a migrant too walking from roadside ditches in worn shoes to this other country?

[3] Cone Flower*

You thrust a hedgehog At the sun, and stand

naked, naked at your center, your petals pulled down like an old bald man with a fringe of white hair

waiting for the butterflies to descend.

*Also know as Echinacea purpurea, and Echinacea comes from the Greek, echinos or hedgehog
